New position: Joel Gordon has been named the new executive director of the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub in North Little Rock. Gordon started his new position on June 1. The Hub works to accelerate the innovation that leads to new products, new businesses and new works of art, according to the organization's website.
"So we have making, we have art, and we have entrepreneurship and co-working," Gordon said. "That gives people a public resource that they can go to that has the access to the tools and the knowledge that they need to actually do something."
Background: Gordon's title was "director of making" at the Hub from its launch in 2013 until he took over as executive director. He also founded the North Little Rock Mini Maker Faire. Gordon has been a fabricator, artist and designer for theater, film and television. He has also worked in industrial design and product development.
Before joining the Hub, Gordon was director of visitor experience at the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock. He is also a science correspondent on KATV's "Good Morning Arkansas" show.
